Happy Monday morning, all!
This wooden box with gold accents via Nake Berkus’ collection at Target:
I’ll be honest, there wasn’t much at Target that inspired me. I’m not a big shopper (mostly because I don’t have the funds) and a lot of Target’s items are so ‘everywhere’ and watered-down that they often don’t feel personal to me. Too commercial, too much of what everyone has.
That said, this ‘inspiration’ is more of a total knock-off, but it makes something I already own a little more special. I have (or should I say, my husband has) this little box stored away in a drawer:
So, here is my interpretation of the above:
As you can see, the execution isn’t perfect, but I am pleased.
This project was done in fifteen minutes and with supplies I already had: painter’s tape, bronze craft paint, small paint brush, and a ruler.
The hardest part of this project was trying to steal a few moments kid-free to both take photographs and execute my plan.
Here is the hilarity that ensued:
Do you know how hard it is to take a photograph of something when three little gremlins are stealing your objects and climbing you like Mount Kilimanjaro?
Eventually, I locked myself into my bedroom. I kid you not, all three of them were clawing at the door like hungry zombies. And people wonder why I can’t get anything done! 😉
Here is a reasonable photo of the box all taped up and the first coat of paint.
Honestly, I like the small transformation.
Of course, I modified the design a bit, but I think the chunkier chevron stripes that wrap around the box lid are better proportioned for the piece.
Be sure to check out Jennifer’s post today. She has a lovely piece of artwork, as inspired by a Target piece.
In future weeks there will be additional challenges. You can check out Brave New Home for more information. I hope you play along. What inspires you?
Have a great day!
