Pick the Perfect Paint!

CALLING ALL READERS!
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO PICK THE PERFECT PAINT!
A dear friend, and former dance student, of mine e-mailed me on a whim and offered an entire french provincial bedroom suite to me for FREE!
Can you believe it? She is such a doll. Take a peek at what she so graciously gave to me:
Since she was expecting the arrival of her new, grown-up bedroom suite, lives only five minutes from me, and knows of my furniture obsession, I was the first person she thought to gift such a lovely set. Don’t get me wrong, as adorable as the set is, it does need some love. It is solid, but not entirely wood, which is common for such sets. The foundation of all pieces is wood, but the dresser, desk, and hutch have melamine (a hard plastic) drawer fronts and tops – again, quite common.
“So, why are you telling me?“, you must be asking yourself.
Well, I need your help. My intention is to paint this entire bedroom suite and sell it.
The problem?
Well, I just can’t decide which color to paint the set.
White, or off-white/ivory, is the obvious choice.
But, I am craving to experiment with color, any color.
So, here is where you come in. I want your opinion, both in the form of comments to this post, and in answer to the poll provided below.
The things I am keeping in mind for resale are as follows:
- This set is obviously feminine, so I think the color choice should follow suit. Don’t you?
- I will be painting all of the pieces the same color (or colors, dependent upon your feedback). So, any colors other than neutral tones (white, off white, black, etc…), may prove to be a hard sell.
- On the other hand, fun, girly colors, may be just the thing this set needs: pink, coral, aqua, turquoise, gray, yellow, and the like.
- Because the set isn’t high-end and needs some minor repairs (don’t get me wrong, it isn’t junk either), I don’t feel as guilty throwing caution to the wind with a fun color. This could even involve changing the color of the hardware (drawer handles, knobs, hinges, etc…).
First, allow me to show you some color choices I am considering.

Okay, not to sway anyone, but this is what I saw in my mind’s eye. It always scares me when I see exactly my thoughts in someone’s else’s actions.
You get the idea, the possibilities are endless.
I think I am going to try my hand at the now popular chalk paint, well, at least homemade chalk paint. The advantages of chalk paint are minimal to no sanding, even coverage, and a worn, distressed finish.
So, what do YOU think?
Your input and opinions are greatly appreciated!
Maybe you have a little girl or young lady in mind for this very set?
I look forward to seeing what the winning color choice is!
Would you consider offering to paint it a color of the (confirmed) seller’s choice … think Etsy. Just a thought.
That is an excellent idea. I was thinking along those lines too.
I asked my girls, and they voted for red blue and green swirled paint. I am obsessed with the gray and yellow combo these days, so I vote gray!
Red, blue, and green; swirled? What is it an Easter egg or “Karma Chameleon” (red, gold, and green)?
Wait? A tie-dyed dresser? Your girls are so creative.
